Jiang Xueqin's Iran War Prediction: Mostly Confirmed, Key Calls Pending
Yes. Professor Jiang Xueqin said in April 2024 that the United States would go to war with Iran, and that call (P011) is marked confirmed. Of the 18 Iran-related predictions we track, 10 are confirmed and one is wrong. The rest are still pending, including some of the highest-stakes ones. As of 2026-10-26, this is the most detailed public record of any answer to the question of who predicted the Iran-Israel war.
The most-cited call: a US-Iran war
In April 2024, Jiang predicted a US war with Iran, on a timeline of two to four years (roughly 2026 to 2028) (P011). The prediction was confirmed when the war began in early 2026, inside the window he gave.
He also made calls about how the war would unfold:
- US strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities (P012, predicted 2024): confirmed.
- Shock and Awe would fail (P015, predicted May 2024): confirmed.
- Iran would close the Strait of Hormuz (P026, predicted summer 2025): confirmed.
- Iran would attack Gulf states such as Dubai, Bahrain and Qatar once war began (P027, predicted 2024-2025): confirmed.
These matter more than the headline call. Predicting a war between long-standing adversaries is a bet on a widely discussed risk. The specific mechanics are harder to call: Hormuz, Gulf strikes and the failure of an opening air campaign.
Timeline of confirmed Iran calls
2024: The foundational calls: war (P011), strikes on nuclear sites (P012), Shock and Awe failing (P015), and Gulf attacks (P027).
Summer 2025: The Hormuz closure (P026).
Early 2026: Nuclear weapons would not be used (P016), confirmed.
March 2026: Three further calls were confirmed as events unfolded. The war would last weeks to possibly years (P018). Attacks on Iranian civilian infrastructure such as water, dams and power plants would escalate (P020). The US and Israel would destroy the Iranian navy (P105).
Two other confirmed entries, a decapitation strike killing Ayatollah Khamenei around March 1, 2026 (P088), and the navy's destruction (P105), carry no recorded prediction date in our system. We list them as confirmed outcomes but cannot say how far in advance they were called, so treat them with caution when judging foresight.
The miss
One Iran call is wrong. Jiang predicted in May 2024 that Putin would declare a nuclear umbrella over Iran, preventing US nuclear use (P017). That did not happen. The related call that nuclear weapons would not be used (P016) was confirmed, so the outcome he described occurred but not through the mechanism he named.
Still pending
Several consequential predictions are unresolved:
- Ground troops: If the US sends ground troops, it will lose catastrophically, with troops trapped as hostages (P014). This is conditional, so it stays pending until the condition is met.
- Iran's strategy: Tehran aims to lure America into a ground invasion and fight a guerrilla war in the mountains (P022).
- Fracture: The American-Israeli strategy is to split Iran into ethnic enclaves fighting over water (P019).
- World War III: The US-Iran war constitutes World War III (P021). Its resolution depends on how the term is defined.
- Saudi Arabia: The kingdom is pushing Washington toward war because it cannot survive without the US fighting Iran for it (P025).
- Dubai: It is dead as a global financial and luxury city (P028) and will go bankrupt (P030).
Pending does not mean wrong. Several of these are long-term or structural claims that may never produce a clean resolution.
How to read the record
Across all 463 predictions tracked, 17 are confirmed and 5 are wrong. That is 22 resolved, giving headline accuracy of 77% (confirmed of confirmed plus wrong). A further 416 are pending or unverifiable.
The Iran record looks stronger than the overall rate, but the denominator is small. Eleven resolved Iran calls is not a large sample, and most of the confirmed ones come from the same event, so they are not independent tests. Once a war starts, follow-on calls about strikes, Hormuz and Gulf attacks become correlated. Several resolutions also came from news reporting on events, and the wording of some predictions is broad enough to ease confirmation.
The fair reading is this: Jiang called a US-Iran war two years ahead, with specifics that checked out, and he missed on Russia's role. The decisive tests, especially ground troops and Iran's possible fracture, have not yet resolved.
